Hey! I am Noah Nims.

I’m a Photographer/Videographer based in Southern California, specializing in capturing both moving and still images through any lens I can get my hands on. I’m in love with the analogue experience of film photography, passionate about storytelling as a filmmaker, and find joy in capturing moments with digital photography.

I’ve been taking pictures since I was a kid. When I was nine, I got my own DSLR camera, not as a gift, but because I broke my parents’ camera after tripping in the streets of New Orleans. I actually stepped away from photography for a few years to pursue other teenage passions (mainly playing video games), but also painting and drawing. I particularly enjoyed sketching landscapes and everyday objects that caught my eye. More often than not, I ended up feeling frustrated that my drawings were missing something. Something that I eventually found when I fell back in love with photography.

That appreciation for still images naturally extended to moving images. I made a short film for fun as part of my college applications, which led to working as both an assistant photographer and intern videographer in college. Then I took a film photography and printing class, and everything clicked. The full analogue experience: manually exposing film, mixing chemistry, developing, and printing in the darkroom, made photography feel like an art form again, not just a job. I became so obsessed that I ended up as the lab technician, with the darkroom as my safe space.

By graduation, I’d made multiple short films, worked on professional productions, shot thousands of photos for the college and clients, and processed countless rolls of film. I even traveled abroad for two weeks, shooting film and developing rolls out of my luggage.

Coming back, I had to ask myself: “What do I want to do as a real adult?” The answer came easily. Do what fulfills you. And I know what does: A killer composition. A moment captured. A story told well.

That’s what NNims Studios is. Thanks for being here.
